A free baggage allowance is included in airline tickets issued by Delta Air Lines. The authorized allowances give the right to transport certain numbers of baggage, the size and weight of which differ according to the fare selected by the passengers when booking the flight.

Hand Baggage: Height and weight threshold not to be crossed

For hand luggage, passengers are entitled to the same allowance: One piece in the cabin of 115cm (56x36x23) knowing that the size of the wheels and the handle is included.

It is also possible to bring a personal bag or a handbag, and of course, its weight and size must be less than that of the main luggage.

Other items can also be taken into the cabin, excluding hand luggage, such as products purchased from Duty Free stores at the airport, pushchairs and car seats for children, etc.

Checked Baggage: Number of bags, dimensions and maximum weight

Each passenger is entitled to carry one piece of baggage in the hold but must comply with certain standards in terms of the number of pieces, their weight and their dimensions:

Two pieces of luggage at least 23kg each can be checked in by the passenger knowing that he can carry eight other pieces in the hold, by paying a fee. Their dimensions must be less than or equal to 157cm.

For some fares, the transport of checked baggage is chargeable. The price starts at $30 and can reach $100 depending on the flight itinerary or the price of the reservation.

Traveling with excess baggage: How much to pay?

If your baggage exceeds the weight or size permitted by Delta Air Lines, the US airline may require that the baggage not travel with the passenger and be shipped, with or without additional charge.

For those who wish to carry additional baggage in the hold, Delta Air Lines does offer this service for a fee.

It is always possible to modify and improve your baggage allowance before the end of the check-in deadline. The service is available at the airport, but also offered online, where the prices for excess baggage are much cheaper.

Baggage allowances can be purchased online from the Manage Booking section.

Certain items are prohibited in your hand baggage

For security reasons, you may not carry weapons or replicas of any kind; pointed, sharp or blunt objects that can be used to injure as nail nippers; explosive or flammable, chemical or toxic substances that could endanger the physical integrity of people or the safety of the aircraft.

Liquids in bottles larger than 100ml cannot be transported, even if the bottle is not completely full. Vials should be inside a completely sealed clear plastic wrapper.

Plastic packaging must be presented during passenger boarding control and only one per person is authorized. These restrictions also apply to a passenger who, despite a domestic flight, boards in an area designated for international boarding.

However, it is important to read the regulations in force in the country of destination or to consult the airline with which you will be traveling before boarding (Delta Air Lines in this case).

Items allowed in hand luggage

There are items you can safely put in the cabin, such as the camera, a GPS and the computer, as well as a dryer or an iron for both hair and travel, among others. But all electronic objects must pass the inspection with X-ray scanner separately.

Regarding personal hygiene products and liquids, you can take gel and shampoo, the creams and colognes you usually use, deodorant… But no liquid can exceed 100 milliliters containers of these sizes are sold for this purpose. In addition, you must put the containers in a transparent plastic bag with an airtight seal, with a maximum capacity of one liter (20 x 20 cm) and in which they fit freely. Please note that you can only carry one bag per passenger, including children. And be aware that if security personnel deem it necessary, liquids may be subject to inspection with special equipment.

Bringing medicines: Is it still possible to put them in hand luggage?

If you do not need medication, it is better not to take any medication because each country has its own regulations. If you carry medication in your hand luggage, you must do so in its original packaging and with the medical prescription justifying its use.

If the medicine is liquid, it can exceed the 100 ml limit, but only if you prove by a medical report that you need it during the trip. Don’t forget to present the medications separately at the security check, outside the transparent bag.

Diabetics and allergy sufferers must present a medical report indicating the need to carry medication and syringes.

Are you allergic and can’t part with your adrenaline? Do you have diabetes and do you have to inject yourself daily? The pen that an allergic person injects in the event of anaphylactic shock and the syringes used by diabetics can pose problems. As it is possible that each company has a protocol, it is best to inquire and ensure before flying.

Cabin food: Some foods are allowed while others are prohibited

Before you travel, it is useful to know what foods you can carry in your suitcase. You are allowed to carry in your handbag liquids bought in duty free, cakes, biscuits, … You can also bring yoghurts and sauces, but only up to 100 ml.

But there are products, such as cheeses, canned meats and pates, vegetables and fruits, that can cause you problems. And it is that in some countries they prohibit the transport of unindustrialized and fresh food products in their territory, so at the security check, knowing your destination, they can make you get rid of certain foods if you have not been well informed.

In the hand baggage you can carry all the liquid food you need during the trip, if you have to follow a special diet due to illness, and children’s food is also included. If they ask, you must show the authenticity of the food and present it separately at security checks. It is also very practical not to forget the medical justification.
