For everyone’s safety and comfort during your journey, Thalys has put in place a few rules relating to luggage allowed on board. Discover them here to avoid being regularized* during boarding.
For security reasons, it is forbidden to obstruct the corridors and doors of the train with luggage or to secure luggage (ropes, padlocks) in the train.
If you are traveling with a child, you can take a stroller on board free of charge in addition to the baggage allowance opposite. The stroller must be folded before boarding and placed in the storage spaces in the car where you are seated.
In the event of excess baggage, the traveler may be charged an amount of €30 per piece of baggage or have their baggage refused on board. No object not authorized by Thalys will be accepted on board.
Traveling with a bicycle on board
As storage space on board is limited, bicycles are only accepted in limited numbers and subject to certain transport rules: the two wheels must be removed and the bicycle must be contained in a non-rigid cover of max. 135 x 85 x 30 cm covering the entire disassembled bike.
Any bike that does not comply with these conditions will be refused by the Train Manager and cannot be boarded. People traveling with a bicycle must present themselves on the platform 30 minutes before the departure of the train.
Folding bicycles are considered as regular luggage insofar as they do not exceed the following dimensions when folded: max. 75x53x30cm.
Special baggage allowed on board
Certain items exceeding the dimensions of standard baggage are permitted on board. Do not fail, however, to check that your baggage is not included in the list of unauthorized baggage (see below). Any special baggage must be carried in a cover of max. 2m in length.
If you are traveling with special baggage, you can additionally bring a maximum of 1 piece of baggage (max. 75 x 53 x 30 cm) and 1 piece of hand baggage.
Baggage not allowed
For everyone’s safety, certain items are not permitted on board our trains and will not be accepted without any derogation. If the station security teams or the train agents consider that a particular item may represent a risk, Thalys reserves the right to refuse this item.
Baggage is prohibited on board:
- exceeding the authorized baggage volume;
- non-compliant with the rules detailed above;
- containing products:
Unusual: Like perishables with an unpleasant odor or plants.
Dangerous: Edged weapons, firearms, explosives, flammable liquids (fuels, paint, etc.) or any dangerous product (chemical, biological, etc.).
For trade: Products whose quantity and/or packaging demonstrate unequivocally that the traveler’s ticket is misused for the purpose of transporting goods which should have been the subject of a service from an operator specialized in this field.
Proscribed: Products prohibited by customs or any other administrative authority.
